Conduction
Conduction is the transfer of thermal energy with no overall transfer of matter. Conduction is slower in gases than in liquids or solids because the particles in gases collide less often. During conduction thermal energy is transferred without transfer of matter. In metals, conduction is faster because some electrons are free to move about.
